Fannie Edith Nelson was born on May 16, 1924 to Fannie and Bullock. She was raised by her aunt, Mrs. Lillie Washington. She accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, North Little Rock, where she served on several auxillaries, including the Steward Board, the Women's Missionary Society, YPD, Lay Organization, Chancel Choir, and Sunday School. Edith enjoyed working in the church. She was always available to share her gifts and talents on all levels of the 12th Episcopal District of the AME church. She enjoyed the acclaimed title of Bethel's "church van driver" as a service to all organizations of the church as we traveled throughout the 12th Episcopal District. Edith also enjoyed decorating the church for special holidays and special activities of the church. Edith graduated from S.A Jones High School, North Little Rock in 1941. Her professional preparation began with a BA degree and a Masters degree. After 40 years of service, she retired from the North Little Rock School District after teaching at the elementary level. She also served on several education, social, and civic organizations. Her dedication to improve the lives of others was always evident and she touched many lives with her caring and loving spirit. Edith moved to Jacksonville, N.C. to live with her daughter, Eyvonne, where her love for the church continued as she served in various capacities. Edith entered into her eternal rest on November 12,2014. Preceding her in death were her parents and a loving and caring aunt, Mrs. Lillie Washington. She leaves to cherish her loving memory, one son, Kenneth Wilson of Hawaii, and one daughter, Eyvonne Nelson Dawes of Jacksonville, N.C.; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
