Barbara Hope Schlacks Hugg, 87, of Little Rock, Ark., died peacefully in Tulsa, Okla. on Saturday Nov. 22 surrounded by her five children. The family is grateful for the wonderful care provided by the dedicated staff of Grace Hospice in Tulsa as well as the peaceful surroundings and loving care provided by Clarehouse. Barbara was born June 18, 1927, to Nick and Helen Schlacks of Oak Park, Ill. She spent her early childhood growing up on the south side of Chicago. Her family later moved to Davenport, Iowa, where she graduated from high school and then attended the University of Iowa. Barbara was married to Charles Hugg on June 14, 1949 and the couple raised their five children in Lake Bluff, Illinois. Barbara and Charles moved their family to Little Rock in 1970 and founded Clarklift of Arkansas, now Hugg & Hall Equipment. Barbara had an adventurous spirit and loved travel and competitive activities, especially tennis and anything else involving a ball. She was well known for her love of games and participated in tennis leagues well into her seventies. Barbara was a dedicated member of Second Presbyterian Church in Little Rock where she served on the Ladies Pastoral Care team and as a Stephen Minister. Barbara raised her children in a Christian home and possessed a humble spirit in her ministries. Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to a large family that was the central focus of her life. She imparted a love for good food, games, and great music to her family. She had a love for music that evolved through her life but the classics of the Big Band era and Frank Sinatra were always her favorites. Barbara is preceded in death by her one brother, Bill Schlacks, of Brevard, N.C. and by her grandson, Alex Hugg, of Little Rock. She is survived by five children, Janie Clements (Bob) of Tulsa, Okla., Cindy Cole of Rogers, Ark., Marci Hall (Robert) of Little Rock, John Hugg (Lesli) of Little Rock, and Jim Hugg (Mimi) of Little Rock, 18 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday November 29 at Second Presbyterian Church, 600 Pleasant Valley Dr. Little Rock, Ark. 72227. A reception will follow at the church.
