Rodger Lane Salyer

Rodger Lane Salyer, born January 11, 1941 in Anderson Indiana passed on October 1, 2014 surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Riley J. and Cora Blackwell, who raised him and his siblings as well as his mother Vivian Emily Dye and his father Russell Edward Salyer. He is survived by his beloved sisters, Ginger Harrison and Anny Sperry as well as his children, Julie Ann Doyal, Riley Edward Salyer, and Cindie Lane Fawcett. He is also survived by his ex-wife and mother of his children, Jerry Butler Salyer, his brother-in-law, Larry Harrison, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Rodger graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1959 and immediately joined the US Navy. During his time in the Navy, Rodger traveled the world as a photographer in naval intelligence. After leaving the Navy, Rodger relocated to Texas with his young family and worked at both UPS and Union Carbide. During his time at Union Carbide, Rodger also served as the Chief of the voluntary fire department and was also a trained EMT. Rodger is best remembered by his family and friends for his unquenchable thirst for knowledge on all subjects and his unconditional love and understanding for others. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Sardis United Methodist Church. Church services by Ashby Funeral Home will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Sardis United Methodist Church with Stephen Dickinson officiating. Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery in Sardis.
