Verla Davie Sweere, age 81, died on September 27, 2014 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Verla was born December 19, 1932 in Harrisburg, S.D., the daughter of Harrold and Mary Davie. In 1951, Verla married her lifelong love, William C. Sweere of Sioux Falls, S.D. Together, Verla and Bill raised nine children and enjoyed the love and joy of twenty-eight grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Sweere greatly valued learning and personal growth, earning her Bachelor's degree with High Honors from the University of Central Arkansas in 1983, completing this feat in just two years. She was an accomplished artist, writer and interior designer and enjoyed meeting with her writer's group, the Faulkner County Democratic Women's Club and water aerobics class. She also enjoyed writing on the Arkansas Times blog and penning letters to the editor of the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. She loved watching the birds with her husband in her yard. She made special desserts for each of her children's birthdays. African violets in donkey planters will always mean something special to her family members. Verla is survived by her husband, Bill, sisters, Babs Boyd and Eva Williams, her children Bob and Susan Sweere of Springfield, Mo., Jo Anne and Jim Deppe of Ames, Iowa, Kathy Sweere of Little Rock, Arkansas, Bill and Vicki Sweere of Willow Park, Texas, Jim and Heidi Sweere of Kansas City, Mo., Susan and Ken Fielding of Conway, Arkansas, Steve Sweere of North Little Rock, Arkansas, Jess and Misti Sweere of Maumelle, Arkansas and Danny and Kathi Sweere of Conway, Arkansas and her much treasured grandchildren, Robin, Jayme, Joe, John, Elizabeth, Shannon, Tom, Joanna, Tricia, Jessica, Katie, Kristy, Madison, Adam, Dave, Charlotte, Sally, Bobby, Morgan and Matthew and great-grandchildren, Carson, Caroline, Fox, and Teddy as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sweere donated her body to UAMS. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, your local food bank or the charity of your choice.
