James W. Payne, 93, of Conway, Ark., passed away on October 4, 2014. He was born on August 7, 1921 in Bee Branch, Ark. to the late Jackson Payne and Ida Hutchins Payne. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during WWII. James was a Christian man who served the Lord all of his life. He was a lifelong Baptist and a member of First Baptist Church of Conway. He was a hard worker and retired after being a machinist for over 30 years. James was a very gentle, kind, and loving person. He loved being in the outdoors where he spent time hunting, fishing and working in his yard. He was also skilled in the craft of woodworking which he enjoyed doing. James was preceded in death by two sisters, Verlie Wood and Lillie Duncan; and two brothers, Raymond and Junior Payne. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Evonna Payne of Conway; two daughters, Mary Lou Jackson (Jack) of Edmond, Okla., and Kathy Hartgraves (Phil) of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two sisters, Lela Daniels of Greenbrier, and Wilma Ward of California; one brother, Gerald Payne (Mary) of Greenbrier; stepson, Ronnie Bradley (Clare) of Morrilton; and one stepdaughter, Robin Walker of Benton. James is also survived by eight grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway with Bro. Gerald Payne and Bro. Kyle Cochran officiating. Visitation was held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 6, 2014 at the Funeral Home.
