Janell Moore was born December 10, 1921, in Dallas County near the community of Holly Springs in South Arkansas, the third of six children to Addie Lee Williams Rogers and Hollie Nelson Rogers. She passed away in Jacksonville on October 4, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 53 years, Bill Moore; sisters Dorothy Montgomery and Joyce Freemyer; brothers Gerald Rogers and Bob Rogers. She is survived by one sister, Effie Harlan of Seattle, sons Joe Moore (Terri), Dick Moore (Donna), Dan Moore (Barbara) and Steve Moore (Joyce) all of Jacksonvile, nine grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Janell was a Christian of the Methodist faith and a member of the Jacksonville First United Methodist Church since 1947. As a young child she lived in various logging camps in Southeast Oklahoma while her father worked railroading jobs in conjunction with logging efforts. In about 1934 her father was promoted to engineer and the family moved to DeQueen, Arkansas. Janell lived there until graduating high school. During those years, she flourished as a student and athlete. She was especially accomplished in basketball, where she gained the nickname of "Hurricane" from tearing up the opposing defenses, especially if they made her mad. At her 50th high school reunion, she was awarded recognition as being the best athlete from DeQueen High School in the last 50 years. After high school she moved to Little Rock to attend a business college. While there she met Willie A. Moore and they married on August 22, 1941. World War II intervened and Bill was drafted into the Army Air Corps and stationed in Dallas. After the war they settled in Jacksonville and commenced raising boys. For a few years Janell served as the secretary for the Methodist Church. She later worked as the Office manager for the North Little Rock Medical Clinic for Doctors Chudy, Schratz and Belknap. The oldest of Janell's grandchildren christened her Fifi. From that time until her death she was affectionately called Fifi or in most cases My Fifi. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church located at 308 W. Main St., Jacksonville, Ark. 72076, (501) 982-8176.
