Blanche M. Belew Hicks, 101, of Little Rock, passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2014, in Atkins, Arkansas. She was born May 31, 1913, in Antioch (White County), Arkansas to Katie (Henry) and Joe B. Belew, who preceded her. She attended Maple Springs School (Antioch) through the 8th grade and graduated from Beebe High School in 1932. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and has kept the faith. She was an active member of the Highland Valley United Methodist Church for many years while residing near Ferndale. She lived at The Cove, Good Shepherd Retirement Center, from 1999 to 2012. Her hobbies were quilting for the church and dressing dolls for the Salvation Army, having won several Governors' awards. Blanche was preceded death by her husband of 68 years, Thomas J. (Tommy, T.J.) Hicks, her parents, two brothers, Clyde and Murry Belew, and two sisters, Bernice Belew Turner and Ruth Belew Gilliam. She is survived by two children; one son, Joel (Jodie) Hicks of Little Rock and grandsons, Don Hicks (Bo) of Portland, Oregon, and Gene (Leslie) Hicks of Little Rock, and one daughter, Judy Hicks (Carroll) Griffin and grandchildren, Bill (Sissy) and Steve (Lisa) Griffin and Debbie Griffin (Mitchell) Ford, all of Atkins. Also surviving are many great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Blanche's family would like to thank the nurses, staff and CNA's of Atkins Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for their thoughtful care. The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. Friday, October 10, at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth, 5800 West 12th Street, Little Rock. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. and interment will follow the service at Pinecrest Memorial Park, Hwy. 5 near Bryant.
