C.A. Howerton was born in the War Eagle Community of Washington County on July 29, 1935. He passed very peacefully to his promised reward on October 14, 2014, in the presence of family at the age of 79. C.A. and wife Elaine have been residents of Conway for 41 years. C.A. completed his education at Springdale High School where he received numerous awards working with dairy cattle. He married Elaine Berry of Fayetteville on August 3, 1956, and they raised three sons. His greatest legacy is his loving family and his deep love and devotion for Elaine. His smile and sense of humor will be greatly missed by family and all who knew him. C.A. started working as a paper boy in Springdale at the age of 12, and from his earliest days was always known for his hard work. He never hesitated to do all he could to meet the needs of others. C.A.'s career included local and over-the-road trucking, restaurant manager, superintendent of two Arkansas State Parks, finishing his career in public school food service, including 12 years as Food Service Director with Conway Public Schools. One of the things that C.A. was most proud of was 36 years of military service, retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserve. C.A. served many years in the Jaycees at the local, district and State levels, including State Vice President. He also held local positions with the Arkansas State School Food Service Association including State President. His retirement years were spent having fun with family, especially grandchildren, and finding every opportunity he could to be on a tractor. Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Elaine; son Steve and wife LaDonna of Jonesboro; son David and wife Kelly of Denison, Texas; son Scott of Conway; brother Joe and wife Pat of Conway; grandchildren, Susan Rudd and husband Seth of Jackson, Tennessee; Karla Earnhart and husband Blake of Ada, Oklahoma; Lisa Howerton of Newport; Katie Miller and husband Stephen of Burleson, Texas; and Margo Howerton of Conway. C.A. and Elaine presently have nine great-grandchildren, with another one expected in January 2015.
