CAROLYN ETHEL (BESANCON) RINGER, 82, of North Little Rock died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014. She was born Sept. 15, 1932. Carolyn was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert Ross Ringer Jr. and her parents, Frank James and Ethel Grace (Hudson) Besancon. Survivors include her two daughters, Marinelle Ringer and Georgiana (Ringer) Michels; her granddaughter, Rebecca (Michels) Mahaffey; her great-grandson, Aiden Mahaffey; her sister, Julia (Besancon) Giles and her brother, Charles Besancon. Of special note are her life-long friends and best companions, cousin, Francille (Hudson) Honeycutt, and sister-in-law, Alice (Ringer) Oholendt. Carolyn was a 1950 graduate of Little Rock High School and remained active among its alumni as long as her health permitted. She was a proud retiree from the Little Rock District Corps of Engineers, which she served as budget analyst and EEOC officer. Her contributions as a community activist and volunteer in Arkansas and the nation as a whole were extraordinary. Carolyn was a founding member of the Argenta Community Development Corporation—for which she was recognized with a Presidential Service Award in 1997—and a volunteer docent for the Clinton Presidential Library. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Park Hill Presbyterian Church in North Little Rock or Heifer International.
