Sally Ann Boone Marus

Sally Ann Boone Marus left this world for the eternal embrace of her Savior on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, with family members by her side in Jonesboro, Ark. She succumbed peacefully after a brief struggle with an aggressive form of brain cancer. She was born April 12, 1946, in Forrest City, Ark., to Emma May Boone and Herman Elbert Boone. She graduated from Forrest City High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Ouachita Baptist University, where she met the man who would become her husband of nearly 45 years, Paul Oscar Marus, Jr., the son of Sue Spriggs Marus and Paul O. Marus, Sr. of Pine Bluff, Ark. They were wed on October 19, 1969, at the First Baptist Church in Forrest City. They soon made their home in Little Rock, where they lived most of their lives. Sally worked for nearly three decades in various administrative roles at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, including a lengthy stint as the Residency Coordinator for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology – a role in which she enjoyed the opportunity to work with innumerable medical students and residents – and her most recent position in the UAMS College of Medicine as a special assistant to Dr. James A. Clardy, Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education. She endeared herself to scores of UAMS colleagues over the years with her outgoing and friendly personality and her penchant for sharing delicious baked goods and other treats from her kitchen. She was devoted to her family, skilled at cooking and entertaining, adored decorating for every holiday, was a lover and performer of music, a lifelong Arkansas Razorbacks fan, and cared deeply for animals – passing on these traits to her children. She was also a longtime active member of Geyer Springs First Baptist Church in Little Rock, serving over the years in numerous volunteer capacities there. Sally was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert E. Boone, of Twain Harte, Calif. She is survived by her husband, of White Hall, Ark.; son Robert Paul Marus, of Washington, D.C.; daughter Catherine Marus Bell, of Paragould, Ark.; son-in-law Jerry Bell, of Paragould, Ark.; and eight grandchildren who will miss their Mimi very deeply. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Phillips Funeral Home in Paragould. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, October 25, at 2 p.m. at Pulaski Heights Baptist Church, 2200 Kavanaugh Boulevard in Little Rock. A graveside service will be held Sunday, October 26, at 2 p.m. at Linwood Cemetery, Kingshighway at Linwood Drive in Paragould.
