Martha Lee Veasman, 81, of Benton went home to be with her Savior on October 23, 2014. She was born on January 12, 1933 in Pike County, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy R. Robinson and Elvessa Ellis Robinson, her husband, Joe C. Veasman, and her sister, Louise Peterman. She is survived by her children, Rep. Ann Clemmer (Jamie) of Benton, Mark Veasman and David Veasman, her brother, Roy Robinson of Elsberry, MO; grandson, Jay Veasman from the Baton Rouge area, three granddaughters: Taylor Parsons (Tim), Lauren Brewer (Brian), and Caitlin Bennett; one great-granddaughter, Teagan Brewer all of Benton. Martha was a devout Christian, a beloved mother, grandmother and sister who demonstrated her faith through the love and service she showed others. She loved her time as a teacher and her heart was with disadvantaged children especially. She had a gift for inspiring others to learn. As a girl, Martha had wanted to be a missionary. She graduated with a BSE from the University of Missouri in Columbia in 1955 and later earned her MSE from Arkansas State University. It wasn't until later in life, after being widowed early, raising her children and caring for her parents in their final days, that she was able to go to the mission field, teaching at mission schools in Mexico and Belize, and at age 72, in the Philippines. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 Saturday, October 25 in Benton at the First Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the choir. Her funeral and graveside services will be 1:00 Sunday at the church she grew up in, the Auburn Presbyterian Church, in the Auburn community of Pike County, Mo. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Benton First Presbyterian Church, Auburn Presbyterian Church, the Heifer Project, or CJOHN in Benton.
