Mary Elizabeth McMullan King, 89, a lifelong resident of Cotton Plant, died October 22, 2014. Mrs. King, daughter of the late John Hayes and Hazel Robinson McMullan, was born September 15, 1925. She graduated from Cotton Plant High School and Arkansas State University, and taught public school for 42 years. She taught private piano in her later years. A member of the Cotton Plant First United Methodist Church, she served as choir director and pianist for many years. She was a member of the Hypsion Club, Delta Kamma Gamma, Woodruff County Retired Teachers, and the Cotton Plant Cemetery Committee. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Charles (Benny) McMullan, and her husbands, Sidney Banks and Paul King. Survivors are brother, John C. McMullan and wife Arda of Kennett, Mo.; sister, Barbara Cruce and husband Don of Brinkley; two nephews, Lance McMullan and wife Linda of Des Arc, and John T. McMullan and wife Michelle of Kennett, Mo.; four nieces, Lee Ann Wilson and husband Steve of Springdale, Kathryn Webb and husband Mark of Jonesboro, Tracy Buckner and husband John of Des Arc, and Leigh Scales of Kennett, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Gail King of Des Arc; a granddaughter, Kim Clearwater and husband Craig of New Jersey; six great-nephews, five great-great-nephews, one grandson, and a dear friend, Elizabeth Ann White. Visitation is Saturday, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Cotton Plant First United Methodist Church. Funeral service follows at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Cotton Plant Cemetery by Fowler Funeral Home of Brinkley.
