Norris Reed Taylor

Norris Reed "Mickey" Taylor, 93, a long-time resident of Glendale, Arkansas, died Sunday, October 19, 2014, at Homestead Village in Pensacola, Florida, after a brief illness. Mickey was born September 10, 1921, in the community of Grapevine, Arkansas, to Leland Shelley Taylor and Helen Morris Taylor. He graduated from Grapevine High School at the time of the United States' entry into World War II. He married Annie Pearl Hoover on December 18, 1943. They were married for 67 years until Annie Pearl's death in 2011. Mickey volunteered for the Army Air Corps and was assigned to the 311th Infantry. He served in the European Theatre and reached the rank of 1st Sargent. He remained in Germany through the war's end and through the first part of the occupation. He took great pride in being in one of the first Divisions to cross the Rhine. He was discharged in 1946. He worked for the Mississippi River Transmission Company for 35 years. He was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman with a love of nature and an appreciation of Arkansas' beauty. Survivors include his two daughters, Charlotte Ainsworth and husband Lynn of Foley, Alabama, and Shelia Woodfin and husband, Max of Austin, Texas; grandchildren Todd Stitt and wife Denice of Woodlawn, Dabbs McGregor Woodfin of Dallas, Texas, and Ran McLean Woodfin of Los Angeles, California; and great-grandchildren, Taylor and Drew Stitt of Woodlawn, step-grandchildren, Lee Ann and husband, Randy Brugger, Roger Popp, and step great-grandchildren, Staci and Ryan Brugger; his sister, Mildred Pelo and his brother, Billy Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings; and step-granddaughter Monica Popp. The family will receive friends and extended family Sunday, October 26, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ralph Robinson & Son in Pine Bluff. Funeral services will be Monday, October 27, 2014, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel at Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Robert Lyons officiating. Committal will follow in Grapevine Cemetery.
