Vivian Walters Kalkbrenner, 94, of Pine Bluff, died at Jefferson Regional Medical Center on Monday, October 27, 2014. She was born January 13, 1920, in Cornerstone, Jefferson County, Arkansas, daughter of William and Nora Embree Walters. Mrs. Kalkbrenner was reared in Cornerstone and Swan Lake and received her early education in Altheimer, Arkansas, graduating from Altheimer High School. She attended Arkansas A&M in Monticello, Arkansas, where she studied business. She was primarily a homemaker while raising her children. During that time, Mrs. Kalkbrenner was six-time president of the Parent Teacher Association where she was given the Lifetime Member award. Mrs. Kalkbrenner also served as Chairman of Publicity and Special Projects Committees at Sam Taylor Elementary School. She participated with the Boy Scout and Girl Scout programs, was active with the Pine Bluff Little League as a team mother, and for several years she chaired the Pine Bluff Mother's March of Dimes. When her children left home for college, she decided to gain employment and worked at the Arkansas Department of Corrections for ten years until retirement. She was a longtime member of the Pine Bluff Canasta Club. Mrs. Kalkbrenner was a member of the Methodist Church of Cornerstone before transferring her membership to First United Methodist Church of Pine Bluff, where she remained a member for 75 years. During her membership at the church, she taught 4-year-old Sunday school classes for more than 20 years, taught Bible school, was a choir mother, a member of the United Methodist Women, and member of the Danho Sunday School Class. Mrs. Kalkbrenner was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Vincent Kalkbrenner, whom she married November 21, 1946 in Pine Bluff; her parents; and five sisters, Florentine Martin, Irene Bowe, Hazel Clement, Mabel Alessi and Billie Jean Weiss. Survivors include a son, Richard Kalkbrenner, of Little Rock and a daughter, Cindy Kalkbrenner Seaton, and her husband, Drew, of Pine Bluff; four grandchildren, Andrea Seaton Sealy and her husband, Kyle, of East End; Ellen Seaton of Little Rock; William Kalkbrenner and his wife, Devon, of Little Rock; Matthew Kalkbrenner of Little Rock; and one great-grandson, Henry James Kalkbrenner. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 30, 2014, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son in Pine Bluff with Reverend David Fleming officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Robinson's. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 200 W. Sixth Avenue, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71601.
