Leon D. Hadley

A memorial service for Leon D. Hadley will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, September 5th, at the Chapel of Alabama Heritage Funeral Home in Montgomery, Alabama with Rev. Steve Badsky officiating. Leon D. Hadley, 81, died peacefully in his home among family on August 29, 2014. Leon Duane Hadley was born in Richland, Iowa in 1932 to Lawrence and Mildred Hadley. He attended Richland High School. After graduating from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in P.hysics, he became a physics teacher and later a quality engineer at Burgess Battery Co. in Freeport, Illinois. In 1959 he went on to become a McDonald's Franchisee, which led him to Montgomery in 1967 with his wife and children. Active in community affairs, he was on the Board of Directors of Jackson Hospital Foundation, Montgomery Area United Way, Alabama Chapter of the American Cancer Society, the Montgomery YWCO, the Montgomery Chapter of the American Red Cross, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Montgomery Academy, the InterCity YMCA, Compass Bank, and Huntingdon College. Leon was an avid supporter of the Montgomery Zoo, Muscular Dystrophy Association, and the Special Olympics. In his later years Leon enjoyed traveling as well as the bridge games and lively conversations with his friends at Oak Grove Inn. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Kenneth Hadley and Keith Hadley and granddaughter, Sara Michelle Buffton. He is survived by his daughters, Lisa (Thomas) Mims, Sara (Richard) Buffton, Jill Hadley of Virginia; his grandchildren, Catherine, Rebecca, and Russell Tumblin, Elizabeth (Cannon) Murphy, Christina (Jesse) Buckner, Richard Leon, Robert and Julia Buffton; five great-grandchildren and Ann W. Ball, his best-friend and companion for many years.
