Sue Hayden Robbins

Sue Hayden Robbins, 79, of Crossett, Ark., died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014. Sue was born on July 30, 1935, in Jackson, Miss., to Lela and Carl Hayden. She graduated from Eudora (Ark.) High School in 1953. She earned a bachelor's degree in education from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston in 1957. For 40 years, Sue taught hundreds of Crossett and southeast Arkansas students how to play the piano; many of her students pursued successful music careers. She was a leader in music clubs and associations statewide and was a mentor to other piano teachers. Sue was an avid bridge player, enjoyed gardening and traveling, and loved the company of her closest girlfriends. She was active in the First United Methodist Church of Crossett, where she was a member of the Willie Spivey Sunday School Class, sang soprano in the choir and was instrumental in helping acquire the church's pipe organ. She was also involved in the restoration of the Crossett Auditorium and its concert grand piano. Sue is survived by her children, Candace Ann Robbins of Crossett, C.F. "Bubba" Robbins of Portland, Ark., and Julie C. Robbins and her husband, John Pugh Jr., of Little Rock, Ark.; her grandchildren, Hayden Doss Riles and her husband, Nathanael, of Monroe, La., and Adrienne Elizabeth Doss of Little Rock; and her sister, JoAnn Tullos Frazier of Monroe. She was preceded in death by her parents, four siblings, and her husband of 54 years, Charles Edward "Blackie" Robbins. Graveside services are Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 10 a.m. at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Crossett, P.O. Box 738, Crossett, Ark. 71635, or Friends of the Crossett Public Library, 1700 Main St., Crossett, Ark. 71635.
