Wesley Meeks, Jr., also known as "Jr. Meeks", 92, of Crossett died September 10, at the Ashley County Medical Center in Crossett. Born July 16, 1922 to John Wesley and Laura Clyde Meeks, "Jr." was an authentic "hometown boy". He was born and raised in Crossett and very proud of his hometown. Through the years, he was a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Crossett Riding Club and served in the United States Air Force during World War II. However; he's best remembered as an auto dealer/ mechanic who kept most of Ashley County on the road for many years. He began his career in the automobile industry in 1953. Throughout his career, he sold everything from Studebakers to Chevrolets. In fact, it is easier to say that he sold everything EXCEPT Fords and Lincolns than to list all the makes and models he once sold. He enjoyed riding horses, deer hunting, camping and was an avid fisherman. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and an icon of Ashley County, whose name will continue to be seen on the bumpers of cars and trucks for years to come. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 62 years, Ellen Pauline Deal Meeks, one sister, Myrtle Croswell, and one brother, Louie Meeks. He is survived by his three children, Theresa Sanderlin and husband Jimmy of Monroe, La., Dennis Meeks and wife Rheeta of Crossett, and Aundie Rodgers and husband Jimmie of Crossett; three grandsons, Tab Sanderlin and wife Pam of Monroe, La., Lane Meeks and wife Tressa of Crossett, and Russ Meeks and wife Stacey of Crossett; one granddaughter, Amber Pope and husband Mason also of Crossett; eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral service 3 p.m. Friday, September 12th at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 1533 Hwy. 52 W, in Crossett with Bro. Robin Allen and Bro. Eric Hodge officiating, followed by an interment at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Medders Funeral Home. Visitation 6-8 p.m. at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy. 52 W in North Crossett, next to the "Old Jr. Meeks Dealership".
