Louis Anthony Bell Jr

Louis Bell Jr., 90, of Little Rock was born to the union of Louis Anthony Bell Sr. and Birdie Lee Davis Bell. He passed away after experiencing a lengthy illness. A World War II veteran, he completed radio and TV training and certification to open Bell's Radio/Television Repair. He also began working originally as a janitor for Fort Roots VA Hospital, North Little Rock, before ultimately becoming the first African American Laboratory Technician. Upon retiring from both occupations, he became a security guard and worked at Entergy until he retired again at about 85 years of age. Reverend Bell served for many years as senior associate pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Reverend Bell was preceded in death by: wife, Ruby Jewel Fleming; his daughter, Mildred Caroll; both parents and sisters, Doris, Bernice, Lois, Imogene and Gladys. His life and homegoing are being celebrated by his six children: LaVerne Bell-Tolliver, Kathleen, Birdie, Anthony (Pat), Rhonda Bell Holmes (Tracy), and Lorna Cross; his sister, Juanita Bell Woods and a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Family hour will be held on Friday, September 26, 2014, 6-7 p.m., at Ruffin and Jarrett Funeral Home, 1200 S. Chester St. LR (501) 372-1305. Home going services will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014, 11 a.m., at Bullock Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, 1513 South Park, Little Rock, Ark. 72202. Interment will follow with honors at Rest In Peace Memorial Gardens, Hensley, Ark.
