Glenn D. Hollis

LTC Glenn D. Hollis USA (Ret.), of Miramar Beach, Florida, son of Purl David Hollis and Della Irene (Williams) Hollis, was born January 3, 1939 in Camden, Arkansas, passed away August 4, 2015. Glenn attended Bearden High School and Ouachita Baptist University where he played football and basketball. A member of the National Guard, Glenn was called to help with desegregation in Arkansas as a member of the Guardians of Freedom, commissioned by President Eisenhower in 1957. Glenn was commissioned in the United States Army Chemical Corps. While commissioned, he studied at Kansas State University, completing a Masters in Business Administration and at Webster University, completing a Masters in Organizational Effectiveness. Glenn traveled extensively with the army, including tours in Vietnam, and duties in Kansas, Germany, Arkansas, Japan, California, Texas, and Colorado. His military honors include: the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign medal with 60 Device, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Bronze Star, Meritorious Unit Citation, Meritorious Service Medal with second Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Service Ribbon, Air Medal with 3rd Awards, the Army Achievement Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Army Commendation Medal. Glenn retired from the Army in Colorado Springs and continued to serve military families for another 23 years as a Financial Planner at First Command Financial Planning. Glenn was an avid outdoorsman throughout his life, enjoying hunting, fishing, scuba, hiking, and skiing. He also enjoyed traveling and traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, South and Central America. Glenn married Sandra Sue Prentice June 20, 1964. They had three children. Glenn married Karen Jean Hollis (Ray) February 6, 1994. He is survived by his wife, Karen, his sons, Glenn C. (Amy) Hollis and Kevin D. (Sheldine) Hollis, his daughter, Mariko M.L. (Tyler) Jenkins, and grandchildren, Jonah, Aiden, Duncan, Chase, and Jade Hollis and Addyson, and Taylor Jenkins. He was preceded in death by sisters, Lulu Mae Eppinette and Francis Williams. Memorial Services will be held Friday, August 14 at 3 p.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery near Denver. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
