Emily Ann Vaughn, 25, of North Little Rock passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Tuesday, February 3, 2015. Emily was born to Janice and Scott Vaughn in Little Rock on March 14, 1989 and spent the first eight weeks of her life in Oschers Hospital in New Orleans where she underwent several heart procedures. Emily was a fun and feisty young woman. She graduated from the Arkansas School for the Deaf and attended Easter Seals and most recently Access School in Little Rock. Away from school, Emily enjoyed watching T.V., playing with her dogs and riding anywhere, anytime. It is often said that a candle that burns twice as brightly only burns half as long. Emily was a bright light who touched and warmed many hearts. The family thanks Arkansas Children's Hospital for all the wonderful care Emily received over the years. Special thanks is given to Drs. Elizabeth Frazier, Mike Schmitz, Jerry Bushman, Steve VanDevanter, Robert Seibert, James Koontz and the devoted staff and nurses in ICU and CVICU. She also had several loving caregivers and teachers during her life. Emily was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lena and Harold Wegener of Fort Smith and Sid and Dorothy Vaughn of North Little Rock. In addition to Janice and Scott, Emily is survived by her aunts, Linda Whatley (Alan) of Norphlet and Sandy Davis (Mike) of Baton Rouge; and uncle, Sid Vaughn (Wendy) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; along with several cousins. Emily is also survived by her beloved dogs, Sophie and Chewy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Arkansas Children's Hospital or The Deaf Church c/o First Assembly in North Little Rock. Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 6, 2015 at Smith – North Little Rock Funeral Home. A private burial will follow at Rest Hills Memorial Park.
