Toni Phillips, 78, of Hot Springs Village passed away on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015 at home. She was born 21 Sept. 1936 in Nashville, Tenn. Toni was a graduate of Needham High School in Needham, Mass. and the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kan. During her life Toni was an election commissioner for the State of Arkansas, a Garland County Election Commissioner, an associate professor at the University of Arkansas in Government Studies, a High School Spanish and English teacher, a Red Cross volunteer and a devoted Military wife. During her 19 years in Hot Springs Village, Toni was active in the Republican Party, Ladies of Sacred Heart Saint Bridget's and Saint Jude's Guilds and Vapor Valley Questers. She enjoyed traveling, family, friends and the people that she met, worshiping in the Catholic Church, playing cards, Mahjong, Bunco and golfing with the Lady Duffers. Toni is predeceased by her parents, Margaret Cope and Carl Telle; husband of 54 years, Robert "Rip" Phillips and an infant son, Peter Phillips. Toni is survived by her sons, Gregory (Caroleen) of Gypsum, Colo. and Geoffrey (Barbara) of Sudbury, Mass.; sisters-in-law, Jacqueline Humbard of Springdale, Ark., Patricia (Bob) Shoemaker of Springdale, Ark., Elaine Launderville of Garfield, Ark. and Jane Shipman of Mountain View, Ark.; brother-in-law, John David (Wanda) Phillips of Jasper, Ark.; grandchildren, Savannah Phillips-Smith of Leavenworth, Wash. and Alyssa Phillips of Sudbury, Mass.; step-grandchildren, Lindsi, Rob and Scott Cagan; relatives, Shirley (Fred) Terry, Don Phillips and Sharon (Jerry) Burgreen; and many other beloved family and friends to include her wonderful caregiver, Bobbie Stigall. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Bill Elser as celebrant. At 10:30 a.m. the saying of the Rosary will be held in the Church to precede the service. Interment will be in the Union Hill Cemetery, Jasper, Ark. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 295 Balearic Road, Hot Springs Village, Ark. 71909 or to a charity of your choice.
