Michael Wayne Howie

Michael Wayne Howie, 42, of Richlands, N.C. passed away Friday, Feb. 6, 2015. Born in Asheville, N.C., he was the son of the late Herbert Doyle Howie Jr. and Geraldine Lee Leavelle and husband, Christopher of Jacksonville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Iraq from 2003-2004 and 2005-2006. He obtained the rank of SSG (E6) and received the Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal Campaign Star and was Honorably discharged in 2008. He currently worked as a senior maintenance supervisor in cabinet manufacturing. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and lover of the great outdoors. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Crystal R. Howie of the home; a daughter, Kayla LeAnn Howie of Rogers, Ark.; three sons, Michael Lewis Howie of Springdale, Ark., Thomas Lee Poor, Alexzander Regan Poor, both of Richlands, N.C.; a sister, Jaime Thompson and husband, Jeff Thieman of Bentonville, Ark.; grandmother, Phena Beatrice Howie of Thomson, Ga. and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and in-laws. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by a sister, Cheryl Howie. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening at 6 p.m., with a memorial service to begin at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville, N.C.
