Robert O. Hardy

On February 12, 2015, Robert Oxford Hardy, age 90, of Warren, Ark. passed away peacefully at his home with family and friends present. Robert was born in Fitzgerald, Ga., on December 23, 1924 to Charlotte Oxford and Calvin Augustus Hardy. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1941 and served during WWII in North Africa and the Pacific theaters. After 10 years of naval service, he transferred to the U.S. Air Force where he served all over the world for 23 additional years as a nuclear weapons specialist achieving the top rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Following his service, he retired to a love of farming in Warren, Ark., to honor his wife's years of support by moving closer to her family. As an avid student of history, he obtained his teaching certification from the University of Arkansas at Monticello and taught history at Warren High School for 10 years. Following the death of his wife in 1996, his last great passion became the rescue of community dogs and support of the local humane society, helping to raise $30,000 and plan a future no kill shelter. He was a devout Christian and member of Hampton Primitive Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his wife, Audrey (Jo) Hobgood, Brother Calvin, and survived by his twin sister, Barbara Pierce and three sons, Bob, Richard and Cullen. Memorial service 4 p.m. Saturday, February 14, at Frazer's Chapel.
