Nancy Carol Davis Story

Nancy Carol Davis Story, 85, was surrounded by loved ones as she passed from this life and went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015. Nancy is survived by her beloved husband, Dr. Wm. Charles "Chuck" Story, to whom she had been married for 66 years, their seven children, 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Nancy was born on Dec. 8, 1929 on a snowy day in Little Rock, Ark. She was the daughter of the late Mary Louise Tansil Davis and Wilburn Flourney Davis. She graduated from North Little Rock High School, where Nancy and Chuck were high school sweethearts. They eloped while students at the University of Arkansas and journeyed through college, medical school and a 30-year military career in the Navy (corpsman) and Air Force with stations throughout the world before coming to Jackson and enjoying a second medical career with The Jackson Clinic. Nancy was a wonderful wife and mother. She exuded love, grace, charm and generosity. She devoted herself to taking care of and enjoying her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her kitchen was always open to all and she graciously extended hospitality to so many. She beautifully served others outside her family. Over the years she was a den mother, Girl Scout leader, Red Cross volunteer, Bible study participant and leader, volunteered in nursing homes, was active in the POW-MIA Organization and the Officer's Wives Club and served in numerous capacities in several churches. She received many accolades throughout her life including "Mother of the Year" honors in 1963. Upon moving to Jackson, Nancy enjoyed being involved in parent-teacher organizations, the Red Cross, the Jackson Symphony League, the Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors, Book Clubs, PEO and the Gideon's Auxiliary. She especially enjoyed and was a longtime member and leader of Explorer's Bible Study. She loved studying, discussing and sharing the Word of God and her faith in Him. She enjoyed playing games, exploring the outdoors, fishing trips with family, cooking big meals, fellowshipping with friends and family, traveling, reading, music, art, gardening, learning, teaching and loving others. Nancy and Chuck particularly loved hosting their entire extended family each year at Gulf Shores to celebrate life and one another together. "Honey" to her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved playing Skip-Bo, hearts and other games. She was a delightful, beautiful, generous and gracious woman who brought great joy to all who knew her. Our loss is great and we miss her immensely.
