Steven Charles Lee of Jacksonville, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 17, 2015. Steve was born on October 4, 1955 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Carroll Charles (Charlie) and Nyna Marie Holt Lee of Jacksonville, Arkansas. His family eventually moved to San Angelo where he graduated from Central High School in 1973. He was a graduate of Angelo State University where he met the love of his life, Laquita Craft. Steve and Laquita were married on July 11, 1978. Their union blessed them with two children – Richard Charles and Lauren Sterling Lee. As a Lance Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, Steve received Meritorious Mast commendation from his commanding officer for his outstanding performance and contributions to his unit, Detachment "A" Marine Wing Support Group 27, Marine Corps Air Station (Helicopter) New River, Jacksonville, N.C. Steve had a long teaching career that took him and his family from San Angelo and Grape Creek, Texas, Southwest Junior High in Little Rock, Arkansas and eventually to the Alaskan Bush country. While in Alaska, they lived and taught in several Native Alaskan Yupik communities where they made lifelong friends and priceless family memories immersed in the Yupik culture. Steve was an avid outdoorsman and always made sure that the family took advantage of all the opportunities that Alaska had to offer. They fished for salmon, hunted and traveled to school and neighboring villages by "Snogo." As the shop teacher, he taught his students how to make native Yupik tools and crafts. He often gifted family and friends with beautiful, handmade items. After eight years of teaching in Alaska, they settled down on the home place in Jacksonville, Ark. where they planned their permanent home. Steve loved his family and was a man of great faith. He always had a smile on his face and was well known for his sense of humor and dry wit. He was preceded in death by his daughter Lauren (who greeted him with loving arms and a big beautiful smile), and his parents, Charlie and Nyna Lee. He is survived by his wife, Laquita Lee, son Richard and wife Chalyce, grandchildren Payton and Piper Lee of Jacksonville, Ark.; his sisters, Carrollyn Tyson (Jimmy) of NlR, Marty Brice (Riley) of Auburn, Ala.; his Aunt, Catherine Johnston (Jimmy) of Sherwood, Ark. as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2015 beginning at 12 noon at Moore's Funeral home in Cabot, Ark. Graveside funeral services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Bayou Meto Cemetery in Jacksonville, Ark. The family would like to thank you all for your love and prayers throughout the years and during this difficult time. For those wishing to make a donation in lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established for Eastside Elementary School in Cabot, Ark. in honor of his grandchildren, Payton and Piper Lee.
