Constance Rosamond New, age 92, died peacefully at her home in Lake Village on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2015. She was born in Memphis, Tenn. on March 25, 1922 to the late Inez Fennell Rosamond and Dr. Eugene Rosamond. She graduated from Miss Hutchison's School in Memphis, attended Rhodes College in Memphis and Sophie New Comb College in New Orleans and received her Bachelor's degree and two Master's degrees from the University of Arkansas at Monticello. She retired from teaching at Lakeside High School after many years and subsequently was principal of St. Mary's Catholic School. She was a member of the Junior League of Memphis and member of the Robert Rosamond chapter of the DAR. She was a communicant at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Village. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 30 years, James R. New; two sisters, Inez Rosamond Boone and Anna Kiersey McClean; daughter-in-law, Rhonda New; and great-granddaughter, Judith Rosemond Barnes. She is survived by her four children, James R. New Jr. (Rhonda) of Dallas, Eugene R. New of New Orleans, Michael C. New (Leslie) of Cadiz, Kentucky, Inez New Barnes (Phil) of Hamburg; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Family would like a special thanks to her long term caregivers Willie White and Margaret Sawyer. Donations may be made to St. Mary's School. Visitation is Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. with rosary following at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2015 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Village with Father Henry Mischkowiuski as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Isadore Cemetery. Arrangements were by Bishop-King Funeral Home of Lake Village.
