Bettye (Susie) Leird

Bettye Sue (Susie) Leird, age 87, of Benton; passed away Sunday, February 15, 2015. Susie's Grandson, Sam Walls III was by her side. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert Burl and Bettie Scruggs. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Don Leird of Benton; her daughter, Donna Walls and husband Sam of Little Rock; grandson, Sam Walls III and wife Jennifer of Little Rock; grandson, Marcus and wife Melanie of Eatonton, Georgia and great-grandchildren, Allie, Brookelyn, Brylee and Sam Walls IV. Susie was a founding member of the First Christian Church of Benton where she was a board member and an all-round supporter and helper for many years. Susie served as a member of the board of the first Benton Library. Along with her husband Don, Susie was very active in both local and state Jaycee charity projects. Susie was a proud member and officer of the American Business Women's Association for many years. Susie was active in the employment agency business and after retirement enjoyed being involved in operating antique mall booths with her husband and daughter, volunteering help in library book sales, and working and supporting charitable organizations such as CJON. Susie was always a loving, caring person to her family, friends and anyone in need. Susie will be missed by her family and many friends. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
