John Paul Pope, age 90, of Cabot, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2016. He was born December 31, 1925 in Fairport, Mo. to the late Lester and Marie Pope. Mr. Pope grew up in Maryville, Mo. graduating from Maryville High School in 1943. He was a Navy veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific. He graduated in 1951 from Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, Mo., he was a teacher and Administrator for 8 years. He left teaching in 1959 to pursue a full time career in the insurance industry. He took early retirement in 1982 at which time he was an underwriting officer with the St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Company in St. Paul, Minn. He was active in square dancing and round dancing, he served as President of Kingsdale Square Dancing Club, he was also a member of the Men's 9 Hole Golf Club, the American Legion Post 341 in Bella Vista, Ark,, a 50 year Mason and member of the Bentonville Lodge #56 and the Scimitar Shrine of Little Rock. Mr. Pope was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lambert Pope. He is survived by his children, John B. Pope and his wife Kris, John K. Pope, Jean M. Pope, and one granddaughter Callie Eckert and her husband Dustin. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock with military honors.
