Phillip Truman Jacobs

Phillip Truman Jacobs was born in Clarksville, Ark. on May 3, 1946 to Truman and Juanita Jacobs. He died on January 6, 2016 at 69 years old. After graduating from Clarksville High School and Arkansas Tech University, Phillip began a long and varied career. Starting out with Sears, he moved around but quickly found his way back to his beloved Johnson County with his young family. Soon after, he bought and ran the Western Auto store and became involved with his community through the Volunteer Firefighters, National Guard Reserve, the Cattleman's Association, and more. In 1999, he became a Representative of the Arkansas General Assembly, where he represented portions of Johnson and Pope counties. He served as Speaker pro tempore from 2001 to 2002. He was a past chairman of the Johnson County Election Commission and served on the Johnson County Quorum Court for six years. From 2004 until his retirement in 2014, he worked as the Vice President of Government Relations at Arkansas Tech. One constant over the years was running his Triple J Ranch, which was his favorite retreat in "God's Country." A true people person, Phillip relished in any job or situation where he could meet folks, hear their stories, and share his own. "To make a long story short," Phillip was a kind and generous man who made a positive impact in the lives of all who knew and encountered him. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Linda Myers Jacobs; her brother, Dale Myers; his son, Todd and wife, Alyson; his son, Brad, and wife, Siara, and their son, the long-anticipated grandson, Connor; his sister, Janice Ferguson; his nephews, Joe and Michael, as well as their wives and children. Services are set for 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 9th, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Clarksville with Reverend Myron Ricketts officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society. Pallbearers will be Bill Acord, George Overby, Darryl Pace, Bill White, Mike Jacobs, Charlie Jones, Floyd Pledger, Michael Ferguson, and Joe Ferguson. Arrangements are under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home in Clarksville, Arkansas.
