Joseph William Younger, 87, went to be with our Lord on January 11, 2016 in Newport, Arkansas. Joe was born on October 26, 1928 in Newport, Arkansas. He was the youngest of five children born to Joseph William and Willie Mae Younger of Newport. Mr. Younger attended Newport High School where he participated in several sports, including baseball and golf. From 1950 to 1952, Mr. Younger honorably served his country in the Korean War, as a member of the Army's 45th Infantry Division. After returning from Korea, Joe was married to Wanda Leigh Langston in 1953. Joe and Wanda moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where Joe received a degree in Petroleum Engineering from Tulsa University in 1957. Joe worked many years for Marathon Oil Company before retiring in 1982. Joe and Wanda had four children, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and remained married until Wanda's death in 2011. Joe and Wanda lived in several towns in Oklahoma and Texas, and spent most of their years in Hobbs, New Mexico and Midland, Texas before returning to Newport in 2008. Joe was a loving husband and devoted father and enjoyed tennis, golf, and spending time with his family and many friends. Mr. Younger is preceded in death by his mother, father, sisters, Peggy Younger-Penix, and Ruth Willbanks, brothers, Billy Younger and Robert Robinson, son Joseph (Joey) Younger, and daughter, Julie Lynne Younger. Mr. Younger is survived by his daughter, Sally Elizabeth Younger Harmier of New Caney, Texas, and his son, Thomas Craig Younger of Santa Barbara, California, his grandchildren, Timothy Kyle Clifton of Asheville, North Carolina, Kasey Leigh Clifton of Midland, Texas, James Phillip Slaughter and Michael Aaron Slaughter of Houston, Texas, Joseph Eric Younger and Robert Clinton Younger of Santa Barbara, California, and his great-grandchildren Sophie Slaughter, Naya Slaughter, and James Slaughter of Houston, Texas. Funeral service will be at Jackson's Newport Funeral Home Chapel 2 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016 with Reverend Liz Lindsey officiating, with graveside service following at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
