Imogene "Gene" Guthrie Ray, 93, of Cabot, died Monday, January 18, 2016. She was born January 26, 1922 in Bradford to the late Fred Daniel and Lexie Mae Burrow Guthrie. She was a faithful member of Cabot United Methodist Church and the GAMA club. Gene served as Cabot's first lady for 19 years, as the wife of Mayor Willie Ray. She also helped her husband run Ray Mobile Home Park, as well as, owning and operating Gene's Beauty Shop for 49 years. She was elected woman of the year in 1989 by the Cabot Chamber of Commerce, and she served on the Arkansas Cosmetology Board. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willie Ray; and three brothers, Fred Dalton Guthrie, Clifton Guthrie, and Ray Guthrie. Gene is survived by her nieces and nephews, Pamela Shelton (Ronnie), Rodney Guthrie (Kay), Mike Guthrie (Claudia), Kaye Winningham (Tom), Phyllis Ray (Tommy), Ron Harden (Linda), Billye Everett, Chuck Drees (Lori), and Bobbie Sanders, and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends. Visitation will be at Cabot United Methodist Church, Saturday, January 23, 2016, from 1-2 p.m. with service beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
