Juanita Alene Townsend Whaley, 88, of Sherwood passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2016. She was born September 5, 1927 in England, Arkansas to the late Allen T. and Amanda Gentry Townsend. She was a graduate of Joe T. Robinson High School, and was a member of Sylvan Hills Community Church for 63 years. Juanita received her nursing degree from Baptist school of Nursing in 1945. She was very active in her church, loved her bingo and was loved by all her family and friends. She is survived by her son, Michael L. Whaley (Pam) of Lonoke; daughter, Sandra Kersey, of Cabot; grandchildren, John Kersey, Matthew Whaley, Janet Kersey Cheshire, Andrew Whaley and Scott Craig; 11 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Jerry Townsend, of Redfield. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George L. Whaley; and her sister, Elverene Barrentine. A visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m., Saturday, followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m., at Sylvan Hills Community Church. Burial will be Monday in Rest Hills Memorial Park.
