Kathleen (Kadie) Mae Portmann (Hill), a resident of Wichita Falls, Texas, died Friday the 15 of January at her home surrounded by family. Born on Oct. 13, 1934 in Indianapolis, Ind., Kadie was the daughter of D. Jack and Helen Hill. Her life carried her to Houston, Texas, Sheboygan, Wis., Bella Vista, Ark. and Wichita Falls, Texas. Anyone who spent time with Kadie knew she was full of life, had a colorful sense of humor and an upfront personality. Those she loved always knew where she stood and how much she loved them. Kadie met and married Dale Portmann in 1957 in Houston, Texas. She and Dale spent 58 years raising three beautiful children, attending basketball games, playing golf, finishing crossword puzzles and simply being together. Kadie always combined personal interests with creativity, laughter and friends. She was an interior designer who worked in the field in Texas and Wisconsin. Kadie was an amazing cook, who produced nightly gourmet dinners for her family. She enjoyed entertaining, which combined her beautiful home and cooking with laughter and loved ones. She connected with many friends through her love of music and other interests including: the Texas Music Educators Association All State Choir, Highlands Church Choir and Bella Vista Women's Choir, professional and family sewing, watercolor, pastel and oil painting, women's golf league at Pine Hills Country Club, making gumbo, attending the Wichita Falls symphony, and playing many rounds of Mah Jongg. Kadie is survived by her husband Dale, three children and five grand-children: daughter Kelly of Brooklyn, N.Y.; son Eric and his wife Kari Bown of Twisp, Wash. and their children Leif and Tova; son Kurt of Wichita Falls, Texas and his children Max, Eli and Sadie; and Kadie's niece Michele Bistany of Humble, Texas. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association (diabetes.org) or a charity of one's choosing.
