Alta Mae Gaines, 85, of Ozark, Arkansas passed peacefully on August 12, 2017 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was a homemaker. She was born May 17, 1932 at Hunt, Arkansas to Millard and May Nard Phillips. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Jay Gaines and Dewey Gaines; a sister, Esther Pelts; and two brothers, Johnnie Phillips and William Phillips. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed traveling, sewing, quilting, and tending her vegetable and flower gardens. She is survived by three children, Linda Carter and husband Charles of Ozark, Arkansas, Reba Bailey and husband Loy of Tontitown, Arkansas, and Doyle Gaines and wife Angel of Gravette, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Christopher and Samuel Carter, Mark Bailey and wife Jenessa, Brooke Bailey, Jennifer Ellis and husband Jerel, Desiree Frazier and husband Brent, and Amy Malone and husband Eric; eight great-grandchildren, Kymber Carter, Dyer and Maye Bailey, Emily, Elizabeth and Ethan Ellis,McKenna Frazier, and Kieran Malone; two sisters, Ora Lee Phillips and Syble Allen; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Hunt under direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark. The family will visit with friends from noon until 2 p.m. at Shaffer Funeral Home, 2315 West Commercial Street in Ozark. Serving as pallbearers are grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Pelts, Raymond Allen, Don Wilcox, Jamie Ledbetter, Donald Walls, Charles Carter, and Loy Bailey. Memorials may be made to Arkansas Childrens NW Foundation, 4093 W.
