Gerald Dean Reed of Sheridan, Arkansas was born January 13, 1927 in Berrien Springs, Michigan, the son of the late Dean Edward and Wilma Bennett Reed. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Sheridan where he served as Deacon, Chairman and Sunday School teacher. Mr. Reed was a retired Engineer for West Bend Company in Wisconsin, later in Sheridan, for over 30 years. He had served in the Air Force having fought in World War II and was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood working in his shop and spending time with his family. Mr. Reed died Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Sheridan Healthcare and Rehab at the age of 90. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Coutant, step-son, James Copeland; half-brother, Kenneth Smith; sister, Janice Erbaguh, and mother of his children, Helen Marie Judd Reed. Survivors: wife of over 44 years, Velma Jean Webb Reed of Sheridan; sons, Dr. Gregory Reed and wife Sandra of Sheridan, Charles Reed of East End, Bryan Reed and wife Linda of Sheridan; daughters, Sharon Scruggs and husband Joe of Rockhill, South Carolina, Cindy Gierth and husband Roy of Joann, step-daughter, Paulette Hogan and husband Ed of Portland Tennessee; daughter-in-law, Judy Copeland of Sheridan; sisters, Lurella Sheets of Michigan and Barbara Plakke of Montana; 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and a host of friends. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel in Sheridan with Bro. Ernest DeSoto officiating. Burial will follow at Lost Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10 a.m. until service time. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
