Madge Maurine McCluggage Lewis was born on a farm in Rose Hill, Kansas, on May 29, 1927, the fifth child of Francis and Estella McCluggage. She left this life to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, August 20, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Lewis, to whom she was married for 63 years. She is survived by her six children: Tim (Ann) Lewis of Wichita, Kansas, Maurine (Buddy) Jones of Columbus, Georgia, Joel (Emma) Lewis of Benton, Laura (Dean) Wright of Little Rock, Cheri (Scott) Smith of Searcy, and Jon (Melita) Lewis of Little Rock. She delighted in her grandchildren: Julie (Matt) Tibbles, Micah (Amy) Lewis, Anna (Don) Caulley, Daniel (Melanie) Jones, David (Eryn) Jones, Sarah (Chris) Nicholson, Eric Lewis, Joshua (Kimberly) Lewis, Jeremy (Diana) Lewis, Amanda Savage, Jenni (Nathan) Bills, Alisa (Will) Copeland, Charles Wright, Jon Scott, Jordan and Claire Smith, Jack, Thomas, and Robert Lewis, Logan Porter; 33 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Marciele Hicks of Wichita, Kansas. Madge loved God with her whole heart. She adored children and was a gifted teacher. A talented pianist, she taught elementary music at Mars Hill Bible School, Crowley's Ridge Academy and Central Arkansas Christian Schools; she also taught private piano lessons in her home. Her joy and passion for music and people inspired all who knew her. Alongside her husband, Madge served as a minister's wife in Alabama, Idaho, Arkansas, Mississippi and around the world. The highlight of Madge's later life was her work with Partners in Progress in Southeast Asia. In her words, she loved telling people about the living God. Madge was devoted to her family. They were her greatest joy. Her legacy of love and faith will live on through them; her children rise up and call her blessed. The family would like to thank Cottage Lane Health and Rehab for their kindness and care in Madge's last days. Alisa and Sarah are Madge's granddaughters who are serving in Kenyan missions. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home Chapel, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Arkansas (501) 224-8300.
