Jennifer Susan (Medlock) Sloan, 82, of Norman, Okla., died Nov. 29, 2017. She was born July 27, 1935, in Kenwood, Ark., to A.T. Medlock and Beatrice (Leavell) Medlock. Jennifer, lovingly known as Susie to her friends and family, was the seventh and youngest child of A.T and Beatrice Medlock. Susie proudly served the State of Arkansas in various roles thoughout her career which began in the public relations office of Governor Frances Cherry. Thereafter, Susie worked for the Arkansas Geological Commission. While there, Susie met James L. Sloan, Sr., chief assistant attorney general of Arkansas. They were married on Jan., 18, 1957. Susie left the Arkansas Geological Commission to raise her daughter, Melanie, who was soon followed by daughter, Cynthia (Cee Cee). Susie loved being a mom, homemaker and community volunteer. She was a devoted parishoner of Our Lady of the Holy Souls Catholic Church from 1954-2004, when she moved to Norman, Okla. Susie was a loving and nurturing mother and was devoted to the advocacy and protection of children. During her life, Susie was active in several community service organizations including the March of Dimes, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Arkansas Bar Association and the La Moderne Club.In 1982, Susie resumed her career with the State of Arkansas, from which she retired in 1993. Susie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 45 years, James L. Sloan Sr., step-sons, James L. Sloan Jr., and Phillip Sloan; her brothers, Harold B. Medlock and Hersel Medlock and sisters, Syble Lockart, Iris Mitchell, Amy Grant and Savannah Lou Mason. Susie is survived by her daughters, Melanie Stinnett (Raymond Esquibel) of Norman, Okla. and Cee Cee Sloan (Mark Allen) of Little Rock, Ark.; her beloved grandsons, Sloan Cooper Stinnett and Brendan Anthony Justin Stinnett, both of Norman, Okla., and her numerous and much loved nieces and nephews. In keeping with her wishes, Susie will be cremated and her ashes interred at the graves of her parents in a private service. Memorials may be made in Susie's memory to St. Judes Children's Hospital or to a children's advocacy organization of your choice. Susie's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of Oklahoma Hospice Care who worked swiftly to provide for her comfort in her final days.
