Jimmie Carpenter Heard

Mrs. Jimmie Carpenter Heard, 92, of Newport, passed away Friday, December 8th in Newport. She was born July 18, 1925 to James B. and Ruth Dodd Carpenter. Mrs. Heard was a long standing member of the First Presbyterian Church in Newport. In the 1950's, she and her husband, Paul, owned and operated one of Newport's best loved drive-in's; Paul's Dixie Queen. Although working in many other capacities afterward, she was best known as a loving and caring granddaughter, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Always busy, she had many interests; loving to work with her hands and was very creative in many different forms from excellent needlework and yarn craft to wonderful dishes and desserts, always sharing all with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John Paul Heard Sr. and son John Paul (Johnny) Heard Jr. She is survived by her son James R. (Bob) Heard and wife Susan, daughter-in-law Vicki along with grandchildren, Jeff, April, Mickey and Jo, great-grandchildren, Isaac, Hailey and Osage, nieces, nephews and friends. Graveside Service will be held Friday, December 15 at 1:30 p.m., at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Newport, Ark. A reception will follow at Fellowship Hall of First Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 664, Newport, Arkansas and Alzheimer's Arkansas, 201 Markham Center Drive, Little Rock, Ark. 72205.
