After college, Ike and Vonna moved to Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and he began his lifelong career at Simmons Bank, where he was eventually promoted to Senior Vice President of the Commercial Banking Group. He also devoted his time to volunteering at the Optimist Club and United Way of Southeast Arkansas and serving on the board of directors for the Du Bocage Foundation and Jefferson County Clean & Beautiful. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pine Bluff. In 2011, Ike was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. In 2012, Vonna and Ike relocated to Little Rock to be closer to Paul, their son, and his family. Ike was most proud of his granddaughters, Madeline and Anna, who were the light of his life. He was their "Poppy." After his move to Little Rock, Ike's church membership was transferred to St. James United Methodist in Little Rock. Ike was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac H. and Dolly Wood, and his wife, Vonna.
