Lorne Richard Worthy

Lt. Col. Lorne Worthy USAF (Ret.), 92, of Drasco, Ark., passed away Dec. 16, 2017. He was born June 7, 1925 in Imlay City, Mich. to the late Leo and Laverna Worthy. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Thelma. They were married 61 years at the time of her death. He was a generous and loving father to seven daughters, Susan (husband, Greg), Lornea, Roxanne, Mary Beth, Mary Ellen (husband, John), Margie (husband, Mark) and Jacqueline. He also leaves behind seventeen grandchildren: Victoria, Amanda (husband, Ty), Cassie (husband, Alex), Kyle (wife, Catherine), Jesse, Angelina (husband, Jacob), Essua, Maxine, Emmett, McClees, Wesley (wife, Tara), Bay, Eli, Forest (wife, Sheri), Brooke, Austin, and Anthony. Lorne also was Great Grandpa to Gavin, Ezra, Dresden, Auden and Ellery. He was looking forward to his sixth great-grandchild due in May. He was preceded in death by his two brothers Leo "Junior" and Tommy Worthy, both of Mich. Lorne graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in accounting after serving in the Army-Air Corps from 1943-1947. He was recalled in 1951. He was a Navigator/Bombardier on the B-36, B-52, and B-58. He was the Commander of a Radar Bomb Site for his final assignment. Lorne retired after a distinguished 24-year career in the Air Force. He moved his family to Little Rock, AR where he worked for the State for almost 13 years as head accountant of 22 Arkansas Vo-Tech Schools. In 1969, Lorne and Thelma bought a two room cinder block cabin on Greer's Ferry Lake which they transformed into their magical vacation and retirement home. Lorne was able to stay in his home because of the loving care of his daughter, Mary Beth. Many thanks to her for providing the means for granting Dad's wish that he die in his home. The family wants to thank Amedisys for providing excellent Home Health Care. There are not enough words of praise for Hospice of North Arkansas and the kindness of Margarat Sumrall and her aides that helped make Dad comfortable in his last days. The family is eternally grateful. Many thanks to Dr. Bob Walton for his support. Lorne was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fairfield Bay, Ark. He loved his church family. A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, Jan 5, 2018 at 11 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
