Donald Eugene Kitterman

Donald "Don" Eugene Kitterman, 75, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2017, at his home in Rogers, Arkansas. Don was born on August 8, 1941 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Des Moines. Following high school, Don worked as a carpenter for Eagle Iron Works, where he helped build the ice arena in Des Moines. He later ran a Texaco service station on S.E. 14th Street in Des Moines. Don married his wife, Mary Ann Crawford, in June 1963, and they moved from Des Moines to Rogers, Arkansas in 1970. He was drawn to the Northwest Arkansas area by Beaver Lake and the great fishing it provided. For the first few years in Arkansas, he worked for Continental Can Company and then trained as an auto body repairman and worked at various locations in Northwest Arkansas. Don retired in 2002, and he and Mary spent much of their time enjoying nearby casinos and horse races. Don enjoyed many hobbies at different times in his life, including fishing, horse race handicapping, coin collecting, and golfing, where he was known to intentionally hit his ball into the woods to look for lost (free) balls. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Harry LeRoy "Roy" Kitterman and Madeline Chassie Kitterman, née Bloom, his wife Mary, and his older brother, Charles "Chuck" LeRoy Kitterman. He is survived by his two daughters, Lori Chumbler and Lisa Kitterman, both of Cave Springs, Arkansas; his grandson, Nick Chumbler of Cave Springs, Arkansas; his brother, Darrell Kitterman of Norwalk, Iowa; his sister, Janet Lehmann of St. Charles, Iowa; fourteen nieces and nephews; and many other family members and friends. A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Stockdale-Moody Funeral Chapel, 2898 West Walnut in Rogers, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Friends of Hobbs State Park-Conversation Area, Inc., at 20201 East Highway 12 Rogers, Arkansas, 72756.
