Margaret Hardgrave Laster, 96, of Little Rock formerly of North Little Rock passed away to her Heavenly home Sunday, January 8, 2017, surrounded by family and friends. She was born in Clarksville, Arkansas on February 8, 1920 to Dr. George L. Hardgrave and Artelia Jones Hardgrave, the youngest of six children. She was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart husband, Harlan D. Laster and her five siblings. She attended Ouachita Baptist (OBU) and State Teachers College (UCA) and received her degree in Home Economics and later undergraduate and Masters Degree in Elementary Education. She taught in the Pulaski County Special School district and the North Little Rock School district for over 25 years. After retirement from teaching, she was records secretary for Park Hill Baptist Church for a number of years. Having a heart for giving to others, she volunteered at Baptist Memorial in North Little Rock and later at Baptist Springhill. She was a member of the North Little Rock Women Club, where she served many years on the Scholarship Fund Committee to select an outstanding deserving student to help further their education. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa and Kappa Kappa Iota Teachers Sororities. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Patty Lowe (Doug); grandson, Richard Lowe (Jennifer); four great-grandchildren, Alex, Brooke, Lindsey and Nick Lowe; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was a member of Park Hill Baptist Church for many years, sharing her love for Jesus as a Sunday school teacher to three year olds. Most recently she was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Little Rock and when she was no longer able to attend the services, she was a member of their Tele-a-Bible class. Memorials may be made to Park Hill Baptist church Children Ministry, Immanuel Baptist Church Tele-a-Bible Class or the North Little Rock Women Club Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 972, North Little Rock, Arkansas 72115. Service will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 13th at Park Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Ken Shaddox and Dr. Cary Heard officiating. There will be a visitation reception immediately following the service at the church. Burial at Little Rock National Cemetery will be private. Arrangements by Smith – North Little Rock Funeral Home.
