Benny Ernest Leonard

Benny Ernest Leonard, 94, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, died on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 at Highlands Heath and Rehab, Bella Vista, Arkansas. He was born Dec. 25, 1922 in Galesburg, Ill. to Paul Leonard and Ferne Benton Leonard. He served in the Marines in World War II. In Iowa, he served as President of Iowa Association Residential and Rehabilitation Facilities. He also worked as the director of Systems Unlimited for fifteen years. He served as a member of the Nomad Shrine and was past President of Nomad Greeters. In 1988, he moved to Bella Vista. He was an avid golfer and worked at the Highlands Golf Course as a starter for nineteen years. He was preceded in death by twin daughters, Julie Leonard and Janet Leonard, and one brother Robert Carlson. Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Leonard; one daughter, Patricia Kalogeropulos (Michael) of Haymarket, Va.; two sons, Thomas Leonard of Cape Coral, Fla., and Matthew Leonard (Kristine) of Iowa City, Iowa.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. There will be no services. His body was donated to the Department of Anatomy at the University of Iowa.
