Geraldine Cunningham Willis

Geraldine Cunningham Willis, lovingly known as Gerre, Honey, Mimi and Aunt Gerre, very peacefully left us on Monday, July 10, 2017. She continues her eternal life in heaven with her Savior and Lord, her husband; Louis Carl Willis Jr., mother and father; Mildred and Charles Cunningham, brother; Dr. Fred Cunningham and son; Louis Carl Willis III. She is survived by daughters, Gerre Lou Wisdom (Chuck), Jan Asbury (Olan), son-in-law; Trey Willis, seen grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two nephews who all loved her very much She was born August 10, 1923 in Little Rock, was raised in the Quapaw Quarter and graduated from Little Rock High School. She and her husband, Carl, were married November 27, 1942 in Little Rock First Church of the Nazarene, where she faithfully attended her entire life. Carl then left for duty in the Pacific theatre of World War II at which time she trained and became a certified x-ray technician. She worked for several years before becoming a full time mother. Gerre suddenly became a widow at 42. She resumed a career at Radiology Associates and was one of the first technicians trained as a nuclear medicine technologist. She was a valued technician there until her retirement. She modeled for her children and others a dedicated and caring work ethic. After retirement, she loved to travel and participated in many group excursions. She was also an active member of the Salvation Army Auxiliary and volunteered as a hostess at the Little Rock VA Medical Center for several years. Gerre had a very determined spirit which greatly helped her overcome lymphoma and navigate through heart problems and multiple strokes. She enjoyed visiting with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was an avid reader. Services will be held at Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth Funeral Home, 5800 West 12th Street in Little Rock on Thursday, July 13, at 2 p.m., with visitation to begin at 1 p.m. An online guestbook is available at www.griffinleggetthealeyroth.com.
