Edward Carl "Bud" Daven, Jr. died Monday, July 17, 2017 from pancreatic cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Carl "Buddy" Daven, Sr. and Darlene Daven Lewis; his sister, Glenda Bittle, and his precious daughter, Deborah Darlene "Darla" Daven King. He is survived by his beloved wife of 541/2 years, Peggy Daven; son, Gregory Carl Daven; grandson, Carl Christopher King; great-grandchildren, Lori Ann and Joseph King; sister, Peggy Deere; brothers, Tim Daven, Jim Daven, and Joe Daven; and numerous nieces and nephews. After attending a three-year program, Bud was ordained a Deacon in the first class of ordained deacons for the Arkansas Catholic Church, on November 7, 1981. He has served at churches in Hot Springs, Mt. Ida, Arkadelphia and his home parish, Malvern. As a Deacon, he has performed numerous, baptisms, marriages and funerals. He also visited the sick and infirmed and counseled parishioners. Bud graduated from Catholic High School in 1960 and went on to receive a B.S. Degree in Biology & Chemistry from UALR. Bud was a Safety Engineer and Plant Manager for Alcoa Aluminum Corporation, a plant manager for Baroid Chemical plant and a Supervisor for the Arkansas Department of Labor. In 1996, he started Safety Services Consulting business and helped companies in Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Missouri, Tennessee, South Carolina, Arizona and Japan, to comply with the National OSHA regulations. He was a member of numerous professional organizations, including American Society of Safety Engineers, serving as president of the Arkansas chapter. Bud volunteered on many community and state committees He was appointed by the Attorney General, to the Arkansas Suicide Prevention Committee and traveled the state talking to the youth about suicide prevention. Bud and Peggy started Survivors of Suicide groups across Arkansas as a support group for people who had lost someone to suicide. Bud and Peggy have lived on a small farm near Malvern for over 45 years, where he planted a yearly garden, tended the land, and raised livestock. He loved camping and deer hunting in Fordyce, as well as, camping and fishing on Lake Ouachita. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Malvern. Visitation will be held 5-6 p.m., Thursday, July 20, 2017 with a prayer service to follow at 6 p.m. at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Arkansas. Funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 21, 2017 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, on Baseline Road, in Little Rock. St. Theresa's is where Bud and Peggy were married; their son, Gregory was baptized; and where their daughter, Darla's funeral was held.
