Gilbert Mothershed

Gilbert O'Neil Mothershed was born on July 15, 1943 in Scott, Arkansas. He entered his eternal rest on July 3, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada, surrounded by family. A 1961 graduate of Horace Mann High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, Gilbert was a member of the marching band, and played the clarinet. Following graduation, Gilbert enlisted in the US Air Force, serving his country from 1961 to 1965. Gilbert settled in Southern California soon after and began his career with the telephone company. Gilbert was a long-time employee of AT&T, ultimately retiring after 30 years of service from Lucent Technologies in 1998. He continued working for another telecom company for several years before entering his second retirement. An active member of the Telecom Pioneers volunteer organization, Gilbert served as a president for multiple terms. He also participated in countless volunteer projects and served on the board for The Lone Wolf Colony Health Ranch in Apple Valley, California. In his active life, Gilbert enjoyed golf, bowling, target shooting, fishing, and traveling, including frequent road-trips to Arkansas and Texas. Gilbert will be remembered for his kind and calm demeanor - especially with children, philanthropic spirit, ability to fix anything, and wonderful sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlevia L. and Hosanna C. Moore Mothershed and his son, Anthony O. Mothershed. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Willie Bee Mothershed; son, Bryan Mothershed; daughter, Ernae Mothershed, stepsons, Thomas (Lynn) and Reggie (Rita); grandchildren, Ross Galloway, Anthony Mothershed II, Kai Mothershed, Omunique Mothershed, Shatya Johnson, Bryan Mothershed and Benjamin Mothershed; great-grandchildren Anthony Mothershed III, Kylie Galloway, Khloe Mothershed, Rosslyn Galloway, and Keith Mothershed; siblings, Lois Mothershed Pot (Jaap), Grace Mothershed Davis (Preston), Thelma Mothershed Wair, Michael W. Mothershed (Lucille), Karen Mothershed and many other relatives and friends. A family hour will be held from 6-7 p.m. on Thursday, July 20th at Ruffin & Jarrett Funeral Home, 1200 S. Chester St, Little Rock, Ark. 72202. A Celebration of Life will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 21st at Mt. Sinai Christian Church, 522 Hickory St., North Little Rock, Ark. 72114. Interment will follow with honors at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery at North Little Rock.
