Shelby Jean Light Morton

Shelby Light Morton was born in Dumas on September 25, 1939 to the late Clell D and Martha Nelson Light. She departed this life on May 29, 2017 in McGehee, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Bruce Morton, her parents, a brother, Rev. David Light and a sister, Peggy L Roebuck. She is survived by two daughters, Pamela M Punzalan (Vince) of Torrance, Calif. and Donna M Heard (John) of McGehee; three grandsons, Daniel Punzalan, Matthew Punzalan, and Jonathan Heard; and one granddaughter, Alexandra Heard; two sisters, Mary Lou Nolan (Clifford) of Gould and Anita L Landers (Charles) of Cave City; two brothers, William "Bill" Light (Linda) of Jonesboro and Richard Light (Paula) of Columbia, La.; brother-in-law Gene Roebuck of Jonesboro and sister-in-law Jolynn Light of White Hall; and a close cousin Lonnie Johnston (Ann) of North Little Rock and many nieces and nephews. She was a long-time resident of Dumas until she moved to McGehee to be close to her daughter. Shelby was a member of First United Methodist church. She was a bookkeeper throughout her life. She retired as Church Secretary at First United Methodist Church. She also kept the books for Walnut Lake Cemetery for many years. In earlier years, she was active in Women's Service League and a past member of Delta Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She has always been active in her church holding various offices. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 230 Court St., Dumas, Ark. or to Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, PO Box 96216, Washington DC 20090-6216. Visitation held 1 hour prior to funeral with visitation being held from 1-2 p.m., with funeral starting at 2 p.m., both held at First United Methodist Church on Thursday June 1, 2017 with Rev. Tandy Hanson and Rev. Buddy Ratliff officiating and followed by burial in Walnut Lake Cemetery. Arrangements are by Griffin Funeral Home, Dumas, guest book www.griffinfh.com.
