JOHNNY COOK LEFTWICH, 69, died Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at his home in Little Rock. He was born July 31, 1947, in Mount Pleasant, Texas, the son of William Henry Leftwich and Frances Cook Leftwich, members of pioneering families in Titus County. Both parents and his sister, Bettye Long, of Alvin, Texas, preceded him in death. He was a student at the University of Houston, a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, and a graduate fellow in geography at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He was a member of the faculty of the Opportunity School in Little Rock and was active in the fields of accounting and real estate in Little Rock and in New York City, later investing in properties in Galveston and Houston, Texas. He was an enthusiastic Pulaski County Master Gardener, working with groups at the Old State House and at the Historic Arkansas Museum in Little Rock, and in cultivating his own vegetable and flower garden at the Two Rivers Park Community Garden site. He will be remembered and missed by his many friends in Arkansas, Texas, and New York, and is survived by his companion of 48 years, J. O. Buckley of Little Rock. His ashes will be scattered among those of generations of his family at Union Hill Cemetery in Titus County, Texas.
