Nina Nell Newell Harder Hoggard Hurley, born October 9, 1924, at Enola, Arkansas to Eugene Kincaid Newell and Jerusha Smith Newell, died June 5, 2017. She was a long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Survivors are a daughter, Cecilia Harder Norwood and her husband Robert Norwood; grandchildren, Michael Wrenn and Katy Norwood all from Little Rock; sister-in-law, Ruth Newell of Conway; and many loving nieces and nephews. Nell was the widow of J. Cecil Harder, Aubrey Hoggard and Wallace Hurley. She is preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Edwin Newell, Howard Newell and his wife, Naylon Newell; and a sister, Mary Lee Hoggard and her husband, Ralph Hoggard. Nell graduated Enola High School in 1942 where she served as president of her senior class. She attended Draughn's Business College in Little Rock. She was recruited from high school to play AAU basketball by Coach Cecil Harder whom she married 5 years later. After he retired as coach, she became coach for one year and won the state tournament and took the team to the National Tournament which was in St. Joseph, Missouri. Her love of basketball lasted her whole life. The family wants to thank all the friends and family that visited and sent cards and flowers during her stay at Good Shepherd. The family also wants to thank the kind, loving, angels that were her caregivers while at Good Shepherd. Following a private burial at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 8 at Crestlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Conway, there will be a Memorial Service at Trinity United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. with Reverend Don Hall officiating.
