Marian Glover Lacey of Little Rock, Ark., transitioned into eternity June 5, 2017, surrounded by family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Silas and Lucinda Glover and brother, Silas Glover Jr. Marian was born in Dermott, Ark., on June 29, 1940. She attended public schools and graduated from Chicot County High School as an honor student at the age of 16. Her education continued at Arkansas AM&N College, (now the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff [UAPB]) in Pine Bluff, Ark., where she graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English. Marian received a Master's of Education from Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind.; a Specialist degree in Educational Administration from University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. During the first ten years of her career as an educator, Marian taught English in the Arkansas delta cities of Helena, Eudora and Clarendon. The next thirty years of her education career were in Little Rock. She taught English at Dunbar Junior High School, served as Assistant Principal at Central High School, and returned to Dunbar Junior High as the principal. In 1988, she was named principal of Horace Mann Arts and Science Magnet Junior High School, remaining in that position for ten years. During Marian's tenure, at Horace Mann Magnet, the school won several awards, and she was named a 1997 Milken National Educator. After serving as Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Schools for seven years, Marian retired June 30, 2005. Upon her retirement, the Little Rock School District instituted the Marian G. Lacey Teacher of the Year Award. Each year a Little Rock teacher is presented this award. Marian accepted Christ at an early age in Dermott, Ark., as a member of Seven Star Missionary Baptist Church. She continued her Christian life and service through the years. At the time of her death, she was a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church where she was a member of the Cornerstone Sunday School Class, the Prayer Shawl Ministry and attended services regularly. Her civic affiliations included serving as a board member of Just Communities of Arkansas, Lions World Services for the Blind, Public Education Foundation of Little Rock and Central Arkansas Library System. Marian was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Beta Pi Omega Chapter. She was initiated into the Alpha Rho Chapter at Arkansas AM&N College, Pine Bluff, Ark., in 1959. She was also a charter member of Eta Sigma Omega Chapter in Helena, Ark., serving as chapter president from 1967-1969. She served as the Graduate Advisor for Epsilon Phi Chapter at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. In 2011, Marian was the Co-Chairman of the Town Hall meeting for the Alpha Kappa Alpha's International Founders' Day held in Little Rock. She was a Golden Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated based on her fifty plus years of service. Marian enjoyed the Performing Arts and attended concerts, musicals and Broadway plays. She was well traveled, traveling to many states, including Hawaii. Three Caribbean cruises were also a part of her travels; one of which she and JJ celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Her hobbies included reading, sewing, knitting, swimming and other physical activities. Spending time with her grandchildren Jillian and Caden was an important highlight of her life. Marian had a vibrant, radiant personality and was loved by many. She extended her love to many as she touched a multitude of lives. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jesse J. Lacey Jr; daughter, Cynthia D. Lacey, Little Rock, Ark.; sons, Jeffrey J. Lacey, Little Rock, Ark.; Dr. Julian K. Lacey (Camille), Rowlett, Texas; two loving grandchildren, Jillian Lacey and Caden Lacey, Rowlett, Texas; brother, Judge Don E. Glover (Dorothy), Dermott, Ark.; sisters, Virginia Halliday (Doc), Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; Barbara Littlejohn (Michael), Lansing, Mich.; Dr. Esther E. Fahm (Tunde), Menomonie, Wis.; Carlotta Hallamon (Terence), West Bloomfield, Mich.; brother-in- law, Levi Lacey, Detroit, MI; sister-in- laws, Doris Glover, McGhee, Ark.; Leoda Sims, Vicksburg, Miss.; adopted sisters, Mamie Bramlett, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; and Janet Davis Tate, Little Rock, Ark.; nieces, Wilda Payton, Altadena, Calif.; Judith James, Little Rock, Ark.; Lysandra Hobbs (Curtis), Jonesboro, Ga.; and Dorcedar Glover, Oxford, Miss.; nephews, Richard Payton, Phoenix, Ariz.; Ronald Glover (Kimberly), Little Rock, Ark.; Doven Glover, Centerville, Ohio; Babatunde Fahm Jr. (Shaudy), Norcross, Ga.; adopted daughters Robbin Bailey, Kristie Byers, Kimberly Lang, Sharon Patton, adopted godddaughter Marian Bailey; and also cousins, relatives, sorority sisters and many friends. Family visitation will be Monday, June 12, 2017 from 6-7:30 p.m. A celebration of Marian's life will be held Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 11 a.m. Both services will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church, 501 North Shackleford, Little Rock, Ark. Interment Immediately following at Haven of Rest Cemetery. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to CARTI Foundation, P. O.
